Why IKEA lies to us?
Long story short: I moved abroad (U.S.) + needed to furnish a new apartment = IKEA. Nothing was wrong when I went to the physical store, all items on display have non-metric system units.
But it seems there is something wrong on the website when converting non-metric to metric system: the size in inches is not properly converted to cm. For instance, a Hurrig Mug</a>' height is 4" = 10,16cm (but IKEA says 9,5cm). And its volume, 8oz = 23,7 cl (but IKEA says 25cl).</strong>
</strong>I quickly notified IKEA on Twitter about this issue.
https://twitter.com/romsson/status/382137179293491200 They promptly replied to me. https://twitter.com/DesignByIKEA/status/382198028376891392 A quick Google of their answer showed this is just a copy and paste of usual B.S. Which pissed me a bit since I though I was helping them. https://twitter.com/romsson/status/382268923980173313 Needless to say it has not been fixed, yet. My take on why such things happen is the following: It's more catchy to have rounding or easy to remember numbers, than decimal ones.</strong> I don't believe there is a conspiracy because on one side they over-estimate height for non-metric system countries, but they under-estimate for metric system ones.
